The expedition traced the Tropic of Capricorn from Namibia’s Atlantic coast to Mozambique’s Indian Ocean shoreline, marking 25 years since Kingsley Holgate and Ross Holgate first completed the route.

The Kingsley Holgate Foundation has successfully concluded its 43rd geographic and humanitarian expedition, Africa Traverse – a 14,200km journey across sub-Saharan Africa.

The expedition traced the Tropic of Capricorn from Namibia’s Atlantic coast to Mozambique’s Indian Ocean shoreline, marking 25 years since Kingsley Holgate and Ross Holgate first completed the route, as well as 25 years of partnership with Defender.

Starting in January and ending in April, the route crossed Namibia, Botswana, South Africa and Mozambique. The team described it as both a demanding endurance drive and a humanitarian mission.

Expedition leader Ross Holgate said returning to the same route a quarter of a century later was a significant milestone, noting advances in navigation and vehicle capability compared with their original journey.
