The first Trek4Mandela 2026 climbers have begun their journey to raise awareness and funds for the Imbumba Foundation’s fight against period poverty and support for girls’ education.

The first group of Trek4Mandela 2026 climbers officially embarked on their journey on Monday, marking the start of a new chapter in the Imbumba Foundation's campaign to combat period poverty and ensure that no girl misses school because of her menstrual cycle.

The send-off signals the beginning of this year's Trek4Mandela expedition series, which will see 40 climbers participate in three separate challenges aimed at raising awareness and funds for the foundation's Caring4Girls Programme.

Forty climbers will take on three challenges as part of Trek4Mandela 2026, including Mount Kilimanjaro expeditions, to support the Caring4Girls Programme.

Widely regarded as South Africa's largest annual charitable Mount Kilimanjaro expedition, Trek4Mandela has, over the years, mobilised hundreds of adventurers in support of menstrual health and girls' education. This year's first team is heading to Tanzania for the iconic Mandela Day summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, while a second group is scheduled to summit the mountain on August 9, National Women's Day. The campaign will also break new ground with the inaugural Larapinta Outback Challenge in Australia, extending its reach to new international audiences.
