The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic characterized Thursday morning’s U.S. strike near the Strait of Hormuz as an act of “aggression” and a “violation of the ceasefire,” strongly condemning the move.

Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, deemed the action a “flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter,” stating that the UN Security Council is obligated to intervene and hold the United States accountable.

Pointing to the ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington, he added that the U.S. continuously violates the ceasefire between the two countries, which has been in effect since April 8.

According to Baghaei, “assaults on commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf and open waters, as well as airstrikes against southern regions of Iran in recent days,” demonstrate the necessity of taking “all required measures to defend Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces shot down four Iranian kamikaze drones around the Strait of Hormuz and targeted a ground control station in Bandar Abbas that was on the verge of launching another drone.
