he Pretoria High Court has sentenced former midwife Yolande Maritz Fouchee to an effective 23 years’ direct imprisonment for offences including culpable homicide, assault, fraud and employing an unqualified person following incidents linked to her Murrayfield maternity practice.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the Pretoria High Court’s decision to sentence former midwife Yolande Maritz Fouchee, 48, to an effective 23 years’ direct imprisonment.

Fouchee, the owner of You and Me Midwife-led Maternity Care in Murrayfield, was convicted on multiple charges, including assault, assault involving a legal duty, culpable homicide, fraud and employing an unqualified person.

The court imposed five years’ imprisonment on six counts of assault, 25 years on each count of assault involving a legal duty, eight years for the culpable homicide of nine-day-old Noah Von Kloeg, two years for fraud, and 12 months for employing an unqualified person. Several sentences will run concurrently.

The court heard that between 2019 and 2020, Fouchee conducted pregnancy check-ups and assisted women during childbirth at her practice in Murrayfield.
