DUBAI: The British Museum has postponed a Jewish Culture Month lecture on ancient Israel and Judah, citing security concerns and the risk of disruption, according to The Independent.

Dr. Paul Collins, keeper of the Department of the Middle East, was due to speak on ancient Israel and objects illustrating the political and cultural forces that shaped the region more than 2,000 years ago.

The event, part of the UK’s first Jewish Culture Month running until June 16, was scheduled at the BP Lecture Theater but was postponed less than 24 hours before it was due to begin.

In a statement cited by The Independent, the museum said it had been informed that a “significant proportion” of registered attendees intended to disrupt the event.

The institution said the decision was taken with organizers and security partners to ensure events could proceed safely, adding that it remained committed to supporting Jewish Culture Month and providing a space for “history, culture and scholarship” without disruption.
