The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has defended Minister Dean Macpherson following allegations of an irregular appointment at the centre of a Public Service Commission investigation.
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) has defended Minister Dean Macpherson following allegations linked to an appointment currently under investigation by the Public Service Commission (PSC).
IOL previously reported that the PSC confirmed an investigation into allegations surrounding the appointment of a Chief Director: Executive Support in the Office of the Director-General, after a complaint was lodged by ActionSA Member of Parliament (MP) Malebo Kobe.
The allegations include claims that the post was not publicly advertised, that proper recruitment procedures were not followed, and that the appointment may have involved external influence in contravention of the Public Service Regulations.
Speaking to IOL News, Department of Public Works and Infrastructure spokesperson Lennox Mabaso said matters relating to staffing and appointments in the Office of the Director-General fall under the authority of the Director-General as the department’s accounting officer.
