A boat race, organised as part of the summer festival, brought cheer to visitors and tourists at the Ooty Lake and Boat House on Thursday.The event, organised by the Tourist Department of The Nilgiris district, has become one of the hallmarks of the summer tourist season with competitions being held each year. District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru flagged off the race and later distributed prizes to the winners who competed in different categories.“Every year, during the summer festival in The Nilgiris district, several cultural and entertainment events such as flower shows, rose shows, fruit shows, and various exhibitions are organised. Traditional and folk art performances by tribal communities of the district, including the Kotas and Irulas, as well as classical dances are also organised by the Tourism Department,” a press release from the district administration said.This year, performances are being organised on each of the days of the Ooty flower show, which came to a close on Thursday.As part of these celebrations, Thursday’s boat race was conducted successfully. Prizes were distributed to the winners, and mementos were also presented to participating cultural troupes, the press release added.
