The much‑awaited Cardiac Wing at Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital marks a historic milestone as the first comprehensive cardiac facility closer to home for communities across the North Coast.

This modern unit brings dedicated cardiac care to the community it serves, eliminating the need for patients and families to travel long distances for specialised treatment. A prestigious opening event was attended by approximately 120 general practitioners, specialists and the executive team from Life Healthcare, reflecting the significance of this major healthcare investment.

The new Cardiac Wing has been purpose‑built to provide exceptional specialist care under one roof. The advanced care includes a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) for dedicated critical care, a Cardiac Theatre for life‑saving heart procedures, and a Catheterisation Laboratory for cutting‑edge diagnostics and minimally invasive cardiac interventions.

This new facility will support and serve communities across Umhlanga, Ballito, Tongaat, Verulam, KwaDukuza (Stanger), Salt Rock, Umdloti and surrounding North Coast areas.

Marketing and Communications Officer Sandy Naicker explained that the opening of the specialised wing means “faster access to urgent cardiac care, skilled intervention when every second counts, and improved healthcare outcomes for residents across the region”.
