A fan of actor and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, R. Pradeep (29) was assaulted for lodging a police complaint over the organisers not playing songs of actor Vijay during a cultural programme organised in connection with a temple function at Alanganallur in Madurai district on Wednesday (May 27, 2026).The police said that during the function at the Sangili Karuppasamy temple, a cultural programme was organised. Pradeep wanted the organisers to play songs from actor Vijay-starrer movie on Sunday (May 24). However, as his demand not was fulfilled, he made a call to Madurai district police control room.Angered over his complaint to the police, a group of youths picked quarrel with Pradeep and attacked him at Azhapuri.The complainant sustained head injuries and his gold chain was snatched. Pradeep was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital.The police have booked five persons, including V. Kanagaraj for rioting and assault. Published - May 28, 2026 04:28 pm IST
