MANILA, Philippines — Labor groups on Thursday trooped to the House of Representatives to denounce what they called a sham bid to outlaw political dynasties.
Their move comes as the lower chamber comes closer to passing legislation that will bar second-degree relatives from holding office at the same time.
“House Bill No. 8389… is a deception against workers and the masses because it is a ‘fake anti-dynasty bill’ led by elitist dynasties,” the Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM), which led the protest alongside other labor groups, said in a statement.
“This is clearly a scam against the people!” it stressed.
