We’re in a bit of a sunscreen boom right now. Just last week, Strategist writer Arielle Avila wrote about all the mineral SPFs that are launching, while our other colleague Tembe Denton-Hurst waved poetic about her new favorite SPF lip gloss. As an acne-prone girl, sunscreen is often a difficult bargain: I want to protect my breakout-caused hyperpigmentation from getting darker in the sun, but without the sunscreen itself clogging my pores and causing fresh pimples to form. So when I noticed there was a brand-new crop of sunscreens out this summer catering to acne-prone skin types, I decided to put them to the test. There is a mix of chemical, mineral, and hybrid formulas below, and each offers slightly different skin benefits. I’m also pleased to report that throughout my testing, my skin remained clear and even, so all four of the sunscreens proved themselves to be noncomedogenic as promised.
