A jet ski malfunctioned, sank and left two friends adrift at sea off the Brazilian beach town of Ilhabela, in São Paulo state, last Sunday (24), according to police chief Caio Nunes de Miranda. Bruna Damaris Sant'anna da Silva, 26, and Dheoge Pereira Bernardino, 28, left Ponta das Canas beach around 4 p.m. but did not return. The watercraft stopped working and began to sink, forcing them to remain in the water. The vehicle is undergoing forensic examination.Bruna was rescued alive on Tuesday morning (26) by fishermen about 16 km from the coast. Firefighters say the use of a life jacket was crucial to her survival. She was taken to Mário Covas Jr. Municipal Hospital and is in stable condition, with no risk of death.

"From what I gathered, the watercraft stopped in the middle of the sea and shut down. They stayed on it for some time, but it began to sink," police chief Caio Nunes de Miranda told TV Globo.
