RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil — Megastar Annita will play the lead role of a still unnamed feature film that will be lensed beginning June 1 at giant media group Globo’s Estúdios Globo in Rio, Amauri Soares, executive director of Estúdios Globo and TV Globo told Variety.
Soares will announce the production today during the Rio2Cpanel Globo: So Much Brazil to Tell.
Anitta herself conceived the original idea of the romance drama, which will be theatrically released. In it Nina (Anitta) is a young woman who, after her grandmother’s death, leaves Rio for a small town in southern Brazil in search of a fresh start. There, she meets Pedro (Kelner Macedo) and goes through experiences that transform her perspective on love, friendship and the future.
Brazilian singer, songwriter and entrepreneur Anitta has risen from a local funk sensation in Rio to a global pop star by combining Brazilian rhythms with an aggressive international expansion strategy, including multilingual releases, collaborations with major global artists, and a strong social media presence.
The film’s cast also includes Valentina Herszage, Regina Casé, Felipe Frazão and Maria Gladys. Juan Jullian, Renata Corrêa and Michel Carvalho wrote the screenplay. Fellipe Barbosa (“Casa Grande,” “Gabriel and the Mountain”) will direct the film and Juliana Kalil produce. Betina Paulon serves as executive producer, while José Luiz Villamarim is its artistic supervisor.
