Skip to contentValve’s Steam Deck has been one of the most popular handheld gaming PCs since it first launched more than four years ago thanks to a combination of well designed hardware and software combined with an affordable price tag.But rising prices for RAM and storage have messed up that formula. The Steam Deck has been out of stock for much of 2026 and the good news is that Valve says it’s now back in stock. The bad news is that it costs between $240 and $300 more than it used to.Last year customers could pick up a Steam Deck OLED with 512GB of RAM for $549 or a 1TB model for $649. Now they sell for $789 and $949, respectively.Specs haven’t changed at all – these are still handheld computers with 7.4 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel, 90 Hz OLED displays, custom AMD processors with a 4-core Zen 2 CPU and 8-core RDNA 2 graphics, 16GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory, and PCIe NVMe storage.It’s just that memory and storage both cost a lot more than they used to, so once Valve sold through its existing inventory the company raised prices to reflect the increased cost of components on newly manufactured hardware.At those new prices, I’m not sure it’s as easy to justify a new Steam Deck purchase… but it’s not like Valve is the only company raising prices in response to RAMageddon. Most competing handhelds are also seeing price increases.There is a silver lining though – Valve has also added some refurbished inventory to its store. While supplies last, you can pick up a refurbished Steam Deck with a 7 inch LCD display for less than half the price of a new Steam Deck OLED.
