It was described by viewers as 'gut wrenching' and the 'most uncomfortable' true crime doc that some may find trouble watching.‌According to the synopsis for the film, it opens after a car carrying three young adults slams into a brick building at 100 miles per hour in Strongsville, Ohio, leaving two lives lost and one sole survivor. The driver was 17-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla.‌She was driving her boyfriend, Dom, and his friend, Davion, home from a party when the unthinkable happened. Both Dom and Davion were declared dead at the scene. The film goes on to explore how what officers thought was a tragic accident, quickly become uncovered as something much more sinister.At the time of writing, the film has spent two weeks at the top spot of Netflix's most watched films. It has managed to accumulate more than 27 and a half million views in total since release.‌Viewers have been so gripped by the details of the case that they have sought out other documentaries. Like The Crash, they include interviews with family and friends of Mackenzie.Now, fans have been flocking to an episode of a popular podcast that examined the case last year. An instalment of Dr Insanity, also looks at what happens and includes more body cam footage than what was used in the Netflix film.‌According to the Dr Insanity YouTube description, the series retells "the scariest stories on the internet. They describe their content as educational, newsworthy, and based on authoritative sources.The episode titled 'Parents Discover Their Daughter Is A Mass Killer' begins on police camera footage showing Mackenzie's parents.
