A Karnataka Public School (KPS) located in Dodda Alahalli of Kanakapura Taluk, Bengaluru South District, has been renamed after Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s late father D.K. Kempegowda.The State government has issued an order renaming the KPS of Dodda Alahalli as ‘Shri D.K. Kempegowda Karnataka Public School.’The government has laid down criteria to attract donations from corporate bodies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and other donors for the new Karnataka Public Schools it plans to establish. According to this, organisations and individuals who have donated have been allowed to name the schools they have developed with their names, if they wish.Ningamma, the wife of late Dodda Kempegowda, a resident of Dodda Alahalli village, donated three acres and 20 guntes of land to the KPS in Dodda Alahalli.In this context, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had recommended to the School Education Department to name this KPS as Shri D.K Kempegowda Karnataka Public School.Accordingly, the project director of Samagra Shikshan Karnataka submitted a proposal to the government seeking permission to rename the school after D.K.
