The video version of Jay Shetty‘s popular motivational podcast “On Purpose” is moving exclusively to Netflix and Spotify — making him the latest big-name podcaster to land a big-money distribution deal.
Spotify, Netflix and Shetty on Wednesday announced a new partnership to bring “On Purpose” into video across both services. Terms weren’t disclosed. A source with knowledge of the agreement told Variety the multiyear deal is worth more than $100 million, and that three other companies had been bidding in the nine-figure range for the rights to “On Purpose.”
The new deals come after Shetty and his previous partner for “On Purpose,” iHeartMedia, parted ways after a three-year run on the iHeartPodcast Network. iHeartMedia had been seeking a four-year renewal on the distribution and sales deal for “On Purpose With Jay Shetty,” but ultimately the two sides could not agree on terms.
Video episodes of Shetty’s “On Purpose” will be available on Spotify and Netflix beginning July 13, representing an unusual joint-exclusive partnership between two streamers. At that point, full-length video episodes of the show will no longer be on YouTube. Spotify users also will be able to listen to the audio-only version (which will continue to be available on Apple Podcasts and other platforms). Under the pact, Spotify will serve as the global ad-sales representative for the show.
