Adrian Peter Duff, the 35-year-old man who was found dead by police almost two days after he dialled 999 and begged the police to save him, was strangled and stabbed, an autopsy found.The post mortem, conducted on Monday at the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park, concluded Duff he died of ligature strangulation (a form of asphyxial death caused by constriction of the neck using a cord, rope, wire, or similar object). He was also stabbed about the body.Last week Wednesday, Duff’s body was found at the Caroni River, off Esperanza Road, Las Lomas No 3. Investigators say the body was discovered approximately two metres off the western bank of the river.Duff, who was dressed in a black jersey and black jeans, was found with a rope tied around his neck and feet, lying face-down in the water, with his head submerged. There were cuts on his forehead, right elbow, right wrist, and left thumb.Last week Monday, Duff, of Rodney Road, Las Lomas No 2, called 999 and told officers he was chopped in a cocoa field and needed help. A search by his friends and relatives was mounted.His burnt bicycle was found last week Tuesday, and a trail of blood was seen near a riverbank.His body was found May 20—36 hours after the distress call.Following the gruesome discovery, relatives say they were left confused, as Duff was well-loved in the community.One relative said Duff had no known enemies. She reported that Duff, who suffered from epilepsy, was unmarried and had no children.She added that he frequently went into forested areas, where he gathered nuts and fruits.
