A 40-year-old man transporting hawala money from Mumbai to Hyderabad aboard the Devagiri Express was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Secunderabad, leading to the seizure of over ₹1.22 crore.The accused, identified as Vijay Ambadas Gupta, a resident of Amaravati district in Maharashtra, was apprehended on Tuesday (May 26) during a joint checking operation conducted between Bollaram and Malkajgiri railway stations.Police said the man was found carrying a bag containing ₹1,22,70,000 and failed to produce any valid documents explaining the source or purpose of the money. He was taken into custody for questioning.During interrogation, the accused revealed that he had collected the cash from an individual identified as Santosh Seth, who runs Kantha Jewellery in Mumbai, and was instructed to deliver it to another person named Banti, associated with a jewellery shop at Monda Market in Secunderabad. He was offered ₹5,000 for transporting the cash.Officials said the seized cash was linked to suspected hawala transactions connected to the jewellery trade.
