British rapper ArrDee has revealed that after drinking from the age of 15, he later battled an addiction to alcohol and ketamine, but has now been sober for several monthsDaniel Bird Assistant Celebrity and Entertainment Editor14:27, 27 May 2026Updated 14:39, 27 May 2026A top British musician has revealed he battled an addiction to ketamine and alcohol. ArrDee has dominated the charts since 2011, when he appeared on a remix of Tion Wayne and Russ Millions' track, Body. But beneath his success and his life, which he's shared on social media, the 23-year-old was privately battling an addiction to alcohol and ketamine. The Brighton-born musician has explained that he and his friends started drinking alcohol at the age of 15, three years below the UK legal drinking age. However, over the years, ArrDee's problem intensified, with the musician experimenting with illegal substances, including ketamine, which he would use for days on end as a numbing mechanism. In the UK, ketamine is a Class B drug. Possession of the substance can lead to up to five years in prison, an unlimited fine or both. Now, though, ArrDee has been sober since January – the longest he's been sober in 12 years.Despite his struggles, ArrDee explained that he could "turn it on" and become a musician instantly on music video sets. One day in particular, he recalled filming while drinking and "doing balloons". Speaking about his struggles, he told Paul C Brunson on his We Need To Tak podcast: "100per cent," when asked if he had an addiction.ArrDee, whose real name is Riley Jason Davies, added: "I've always been very careful, or wary of speaking on this because I didn't want to be the person that touches on all of this and then still carries on doing it."So just for context, me not being drunk and on whatever else from January to what is it now? Nearly April. That's the longest I've been sober since I was 12-years-old."ArrDee went on to explain that he would often be found talking to himself, or the walls, and used ketamine, which was a "numbing" agent for him, amongst other substances. He said: "All of this stuff that I hadn't really dealt with, I'm going three days on the trot and my mum's having to film the states I'm in and to show like and we've got like a bar or had a bar in the house that we're no longer at, but like, I'd be talking to myself or talking to the walls, or I'm on all sorts of drugs, and especially when I found and dive into ketamine, that was the numbing agent."And so my thing with that was never like I would do a little bit because some people do it to get what they call wonky or like they're a bit, mine was it was go, go all the way."But while he admits to going out socialising during his struggles, he says he would often go straight back home and carry on his alcohol and drug use for several days at a time. "For days, yeah, yeah, in my bedroom at home," he said.ArrDee continued: "Like I'd have two bottles of rum by my bedside table at night, in my darkest moments. Two bottles of rum, three/five of packet and at least seven grams of ketamine. And just on my own.""Packet" is commonly used as a slang term for drugs across the United Kingdom, in a way to make the substance sound less "scary". The National Drug Library states that a "packet" often refers to cocaine.Article continues belowFrank offers confidential advice about drugs and addiction (email frank@talktofrank.com, message 82111, or call 0300 123 6600), or the NHS has information about getting help.Like this story?
