Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Sean Sobers says Trinidad and Tobago is not considering using national identification cards for regional travel at this time.He explained if this were to happen in the future, it would first have to be discussed and approved by the Cabinet before moving forward.“At this point in time, Trinidad and Tobago is not considering a similar operation and in any event it would have to be a matter that is discussed and agreed at a Cabinet level,” he said in response to questions from the Express yesterday.Two Caricom countries—Barbados and Guyana—have reached an agreement that will allow their nationals who hold a valid national identification card to be able to travel between the two countries without the need for a passport.The initiative comes as both countries prepare to celebrate their 60th anniversary of political independence from Britain.Guyana celebrated its independence yesterday, while Barbados will do so on November 30.In a statement, the two nations indicated the landmark travel arrangement comes into effect from July 1 this year and gives practical expression to their shared history, deep friendship, and enduring commitment to Caribbean integration. —AR
