TV presenter and actress Laura Whitmore, 41, grew up in County Wicklow, Ireland. She began her career on MTV before hosting I’m a Celebrity’s sister show before featuring on Eurovision and This Morning. She was a contestant on the 14th series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2016 and most recently has been the host of Love Island and Laura Whitmore’s Breakfast Show. Here she outlines her beauty and health routine...Morning routineI’m an early riser – not entirely by choice, but because life with children starts at about 6.30am. I usually wake up hungry, and at the moment I’m religious about my breakfast: ragi porridge. It’s made from red millet flour, packed with calcium and magnesium, and it’s gluten-free. I make it with oat milk, vanilla essence, a pinch of salt and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. It has the consistency of Ready Brek, but for adults!I’ve never been someone who takes every supplement going. I think if you eat properly, with foods that naturally contain what you need, it makes a huge difference. I do take iron, a vitamin D and K spray, and magnesium occasionally. I’m still trying to figure out collagen supplements but I eat a lot of oily fish, so I hope that helps.I’ve swapped coffee for cacao recently. I use a barista-style cacao from an Irish brand called Nibbed, founded by two women from Wicklow, where I’m from. It’s quick to make with oat milk or boiling water, and it gives you that comforting ritual of holding a hot drink without the full caffeine hit.Laura Whitmore says she tries to eat properly, rather than relying on supplements I’ve swapped coffee for cacao recently, she says. I love food and I never deprive myself. If I’m on set, I’ll happily eat the catering. At home, I eat earlier now because of my five-year-old daughter. There are always nuts in the house and, while I try not to overdo sugar, sometimes you just need it. My chocolate of choice is Dairy Milk, but specifically the Irish kind, which definitely tastes better. My mum brings some over when she visits. If I’m drinking, I enjoy a glass of wine or occasionally a little sherry, but I’ve never been excessive. Three drinks on a night out would probably be my limit.Beauty and skincareI’ve put my hair through a lot over the years – I’ve dyed it blonde, dark, even pink – so it depends what state it’s in. When it’s more natural, it’s definitely healthier and easier to maintain. I always use Moroccan oil and heat protection if I’m styling it.Because of my job, I’ve tried endless skincare products. One brand I genuinely love is SKN TO SKN, an Irish company that makes pregnancy-safe and fragrance-free skincare, great for hormonal skin. I swear by the gel-to-oil cleanser, serum and tinted moisturiser. At night, my biggest tip is simply to clean your face properly. Before bed, my partner and I sometimes do Wordle and compete to finish first, which makes me feel ancient. Then I’m asleep almost immediately. Honestly, sleep is the best life hack there is.Interview by ANTONIA LENON
