The 2026 World Cup is a couple of weeks away, and the United States has officially named its roster for the tournament. Now that we know who is on the team, the question shifts to what it can accomplish.The odds say the group stage should go well, but after that it gets dicier. The Americans are favored to win Group D with +125 odds on DraftKings and +130 on BetMGM. That’s far from overwhelming, but it is the shortest odds among the four teams in the group.Turkey is next in the Group D winner odds at +175 on BetMGM and +200 on DraftKings. Paraguay is +350 on BetMGM and +400 on DK. Australia (+700 on DK, +900 on MGM) is the long shot in the group.In other words, the Americans are viewed as the top-rated team in their group, but the gap between them and Turkey is small.In the group games themselves, the USMNT is favored in all three. The Americans currently have minus odds at multiple sportsbooks to win each of their first two group games, against Paraguay on June 12 and Australia on June 19.Victory in those two matches would put the USMNT in a strong position to win the group, but the matchup against Turkey on June 25 is currently viewed as a coin flip. On FanDuel, the U.S. is +145 to beat Turkey, while a Turkey win is listed at +175 and a draw is +240. The odds give an edge to the Americans, but only a small one.Another factor to consider is the tournament format. The new 48-team format makes advancing from the group easier than it was with the 32-team field. Eight third-place teams from the 12 groups will advance to the knockout stage alongside the top two teams from each group. In that format, it would be a complete shock if the Americans don’t advance. The USMNT is -1000 to advance on BetMGM and -750 to advance on DraftKings. So, even though the U.S. didn’t advance from the group in the Copa America on home soil two years ago, this would be a bigger shock.
