This wasn't the smoothest path to the 2026 World Cup for the U.S. men's national team, but the Americans arrive at soccer's biggest global event hoping to get out of the group stage and into the knockout rounds again after advancing to the round of 16 four years ago.The expanded format for this year's World Cup should help, with 48 teams overall and 32 teams moving on from the group stage.
