A funeral hall for a victim surnamed Lee who served as an external expert for structural safety [HAN CHAN-WOO]

A day after the deadly collapse of a demolition site at Seoul’s Seosomun overpass, funeral halls for the three victims were prepared on Wednesday morning. Mourners who arrived at the funeral halls paid tribute to the victims, while survivors and bereaved families voiced anger over lacking safety precautions.

“Today was actually his birthday,” said Park Jun-haeng, a relative of one of the victims, surnamed Lee, who was a 59-year-old site manager killed in the accident. Park recalled a recent call with Lee, a selfless father who spent years moving from one construction site to another to support his family in Naju, South Jeolla.
