Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chairs the first cabinet meeting following the formation of the state government for the second consecutive term, in Guwahati on May 13, 2026

The BJP-led NDA alliance won the Assam Legislative Assembly elections, with the results being declared on May 4, 20266. The NDA won a total of 102 out of 126 seats and achieved a third consecutive term. The Bharatiya Janata Party independently won 82 seats, crossing the majority mark on its own.Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in by Governor Lakhman Prasad Acharya as the Chief Minister of Assam on May 12, 2026 for his second consecutive term.
