From the moment she first arrived on the beach and expressed her utter, almost pathological, hatred of sand, it was obvious Nicola ‘Nix’ Adams would be one of the first to depart.
We knew it, she knew it, even her kids knew it – they had run a sweepstake on when she would be eliminated. None of them thought she would make it past day 12. One of them thought she’d be gone by day three.
If you’d missed every episode between that one and tonight’s finale, in which she became Celebrity Treasure Island’s first female winner, you might have assumed she’d made her peace with sand. You couldn’t have been more wrong. To the bitter end, she was still expressing her extreme distaste. You could see it in her face in the final episode as she crawled face down under a net on the beach, literally eating it.
But while she hated, to the bitter end, every grain of sand on the sprawling beach that was the show’s main stage, still she overcame it.
She is a mum in a big, blended family of seven children. Most of her life happens inside her home, from where she creates much of the content that has made her famous, with more than a million followers on TikTok.
