Nikos Androulakis, leader of the main opposition PASOK party, is expected to file a lawsuit Wednesday against Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, accusing him of defamation and insult, according to party sources.

The lawsuit will be submitted to the Athens misdemeanor prosecutor and relates to recent criticism directed at Androulakis over a property in Iraklio, Crete, and his asset declaration filings, commonly known in Greece as “pothen esches.”

Sources within the socialist party accused the senior conservative politician of spreading false and defamatory claims aimed at damaging Androulakis’ reputation.

They added that the allegations were intended to create “the impression of a scandal” despite there being “nothing illegal, hidden or improper.”

Regarding Androulakis’ financial disclosures, PASOK sources said funds held abroad originated from his salary during his tenure as a member of the European Parliament.
