A bouncer who challenged police officers to a fight and tried to block them from dealing with an intoxicated man has escaped losing his security badge.

Eron Aluesi has been handed a severe reprimand and ordered into mandatory refresher training following a formal misconduct complaint by the police.

The Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority ruled that Aluesi had shown a pattern of aggressive, threatening, and obstructive behaviour toward police, particularly after drinking alcohol.

The licensing authority's decision, released by authority head P A McConnell, detailed a night of escalating hostility in late January.

Police officers had arrived to deal with an intoxicated man behaving in a disorderly manner near the venue where Aluesi was working as a crowd controller. Instead of assisting, Aluesi intervened, tried to obstruct the officers, and made remarks that police interpreted as an invitation to a fight.
