Blitz Wallet just made spending Bitcoin in the real world a lot less painful. The self-custodial Lightning wallet rolled out integrations with BTC Maps and Bitrefill, alongside a new option for users to receive payments in either BTC or USD balances.
What the updates actually do
First, the BTC Maps integration. BTC Maps pulls from OpenStreetMap data to show users where merchants accept Bitcoin. Having this baked directly into the wallet means users don’t need to toggle between apps to figure out where they can actually spend their Bitcoin.
Second, Bitrefill. It lets users purchase gift cards, eSIMs, and phone recharges using Bitcoin. Blitz has embedded this functionality directly into the app. No browser redirects, no copy-pasting Lightning invoices. You find what you want and pay, all within the same interface.
Third, users can now choose to receive Lightning payments directly into either a BTC balance or a USD balance. When someone sends you Bitcoin over Lightning, you can decide whether to hold it as Bitcoin or immediately convert it to a dollar-denominated balance.
