Minority defends walkout: ‘Looked less like orderly deliberation’

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Members of the Senate minority bloc walked out of the plenary session after opposing what they called a rush to amend the chamber’s rules.

In a joint statement shared by Sen. Francis Pangilinan, the minority bloc questioned the timing and process of the proposed rule change, which would affect how senators attend sessions and participate through remote means.

“We walked out because what happened on the floor looked less like orderly deliberation,” the statement read.

The bloc said the proposal should be opened to public debate instead of being “rushed by the tyranny of the majority.”
