The Puducherry police have registered 56 cases against persons for drinking liquor in public spaces as part of a special enforcement drive conducted across the city over the last three days.According to Deputy Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) R. Sathiyasundaram, the last weekend witnessed an exceptionally high footfall of domestic and international tourists arriving at key tourist spots, including beaches and commercial zones. To ensure a safe environment, multiple special teams increased patrolling across prominent spots, including the Beach Promenade, Rock Beach, and major junctions.During the three-day drive, police personnel launched a crackdown on consumption of liquor in public spaces. A total of 56 cases were registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act and Puducherry Police Act against persons found indulging in consumption of liquor in public and creating public nuisance.In addition, the police conducted intensive vehicle checks at key entry and exit points to deter drunk and rash driving.The Puducherry police have appealed to the general public and tourists visiting Puducherry, to respect local laws, cooperate with police personnel on duty, and avoid drinking in unauthorised public areas. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or public disturbances immediately by dialing emergency response number 112.Strict action will be taken against repeat offenders indulging in public drinking, the DIG said.
