A speculative render of how the new 'Little G' might look when it debuts next year.

There’s no denying that the Mercedes-Benz G-Class enjoys a cult following around the globe. So it comes as no surprise that the German carmaker is working on a smaller version that aims to emulate its success in the premium mass market.

Mercedes first announced these plans in early 2025, but little detail was provided, except for the obvious fact that it would be smaller than the current Gelandewagen.

More details on the powertrain development have now emerged, including news that US dealers prevented a potentially damaging decision by pushing the carmaker to adopt a multi-energy strategy.

It appears that the company initially intended to produce the smaller G-Class exclusively as an electric model, but then came the pushback.
