They're wonderfully adaptable when prepared at home, and you can even sneak hidden vegetables into them if you're making a batch for the kids. Mary Berry's version includes cheese and thyme for an extra depth of flavour.The recipe notes state: "Mary's homemade sausage rolls will always be the first to go at a party." They require just a handful of ingredients and can even be popped in the freezer, making them a brilliant option if you end up with any leftovers.Mary Berry's pork sausage rolls recipeIngredients:225g pork sausage meat50g mature cheddar, gratedTwo tablespoons of chopped thyme leaves320g puff pastry packetOne free-range egg, beatenMethod:Heat the oven to 200°C/180°C Fan and line two baking trays with baking paper.Combine the sausage meat, cheese and thyme in a bowl, seasoning generously with salt and pepper.Mash everything together with a fork until well mixed, then roll out the pastry until thin and approximately 25x48cm.Brush the pastry with beaten egg, then slice it widthways into six strips, each measuring roughly 8x25cm.Divide the sausage mixture into six equal portions, roll each into a long sausage shape, and place it lengthways along one side of each pastry strip, leaving a small border along that edge.Brush both long edges with the beaten egg, fold them in half lengthways and firmly press the edges together to seal.Trim the edges and crimp them with a fork.Refrigerate for 10 minutes before cutting into five or six pieces and arranging them on the baking trays.Article continues belowBake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.Choose Daily Mirror as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.FoodRecipesMary Berry
