Volkswagen now offers a new electric sedan in China. The ID. Unyx 07 is based on the technology platform of VW's local partner Xpeng and hits the road after the carmaker already launched the ID. Unyx 08. The ID. Unyx 07 will sell in China from 129,900 yuan, equivalent to approximately 16,500 euros.Image: VolkswagenVolkswagen introduced the ID.Unyx sub-brand in 2024 with a vehicle of the same name. However, this model was essentially a rebadged Cupra Tavascan with minor adjustments and China-specific software. Following a minor facelift in spring, the model was renamed the ID.Unyx 06, though it still relied on the MEB platform with technology adapted for China. This approach shifted with this year’s electric SUV ID. Unyx 08, where partner Xpeng contributed the technology. Volkswagen and Xpeng have adopted the same strategy for the Unyx 07. Volkswagen’s battery-electric mid-size saloon for the Chinese market is slightly larger than a Tesla Model 3. Visually, the 07, like the 08, builds on the design language of the 06 to establish a distinct brand identity for ID.Unyx. This sets the ID.Unyx family apart from the MEB-based electric vehicles previously available in Europe and China. While the ID.Unyx 07 appears somewhat taller than a traditional saloon—much like the VW ID.7—it boasts a unique character.Volkswagen Anhui, by the way, was founded in 2017 as Volkswagen’s third joint venture in China with JAC, alongside the long-standing partnerships with SAIC and FAW. Meanwhile, the German group has taken a majority stake in JAC-Volkswagen and renamed the company Volkswagen Anhui (after the province where its headquarters in Hefei are located). Volkswagen Anhui plans to launch three new models in 2026.Key details and images of the 07 as the second new model were already revealed in October through official approval documents. At its market launch, Volkswagen has now provided further details. The ID.Unyx 07 will be available in a single technical configuration but will offer two trim levels. The base trim, Pure, is priced at 129,900 yuan (just under 16,500 euros). The higher-spec Pure SE trim is listed at 139,900 yuan (around 17,700 euros). For the market debut, Volkswagen is also offering time-limited promotional prices, starting 20,000 yuan below the regular prices. The technical foundation remains identical: the ID. Unyx 07 features a 170 kW electric drivetrain and a 60 kWh LFP battery, which is expected to deliver a range of 558 km under the Chinese CLTC cycle. A second battery option with a larger capacity will follow later. According to an earlier report by CN EV Post, the 60 kWh battery is supplied by Gotion High-Tech. The battery-electric saloon has a kerb weight of 2,057 kilogrammes and a top speed of 160 km/h.Furthermore, the ID.Unyx 07 measures 4.85 metres in length, making it approximately eleven centimetres shorter than the European ID.7. In terms of width (1.85 metres) and height (1.56 metres), both vehicles are nearly identical, differing by just a few millimetres. However, the wheelbase of the ID.Unyx 07 is significantly shorter at 2.83 metres.Visually, the model is characterised by an aerodynamic design—a current trend in China. Its silhouette, featuring an integrated fastback design, evokes the profile of a coupé. Other distinctive features include two pronounced side lines, 19-inch wheels, LED matrix headlights, and an illuminated golden logo.Inside, the China-specific details become even more apparent: the cockpit features four screens—a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 27-inch AR head-up display, a freestanding 15-inch touchscreen for infotainment in the centre console, and a 12-inch entertainment screen for the front passenger. According to Car News China, the underlying system includes an AI-powered Large Language Model (LLM). Additional highlights include a twelve-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, and a 1.6-square-metre panoramic glass roof. The boot offers a standard volume of 711 litres, expanding to 1,580 litres with the rear seats folded.Intelligent driver assistance systems are also crucial for the target market. The ID.Unyx 07 offers two levels of assistance: a camera-based system and a LiDAR-based solution. Standard features include ‘Memory Parking’ and ‘Cross-Level Parking’—both automated parking functions.carnewschina.com, cnevpost.com, vw.com.cn
