One of the country’s lesser-known research centers has been operating for decades in Xanthi, northern Greece.
This remote hub of scientific activity is a branch of Athena Research Center, a top Greek institution in innovation and applied research.
“Initially, the center’s identity was almost exclusively linked to cultural technology, but that has now expanded significantly,” says Vassilis Katsouros, director of the Institute of Speech Processing in Xanthi, to Kathimerini.
Now it also boasts a laboratory for physicochemical research and archaeometry, addressing a diversity of subjects, such as smart agriculture and energy production from algae.
