The 4th annual conference of the International Society of Tropical Foresters Nigeria opened on May 19 at Osun State University, with stakeholders calling for stronger collaboration to protect forest ecosystems and promote sustainable economic growth.

The three-day conference, held at the university’s Ejigbo Campus, was themed, “Forest Ecosystem Conservation: A Roadmap for Resilient Economies and Environmental Sustainability.”

Forest scientists, policymakers and environmental experts from across the country participated in the event, which focused on strategies for sustainable forest management and environmental protection.

Speaking at the conference, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria, Prof Zacharia Yaduma, described sustainable forest management as essential to economic resilience and environmental sustainability.

“Sustainable forest management is therefore not merely an environmental obligation but a strategic pathway towards building resilient economies and securing a sustainable future for generations yet unborn,” he said.
