The Employment Court has ruled against Glen Jenner, who was fighting to be reinstated as vice president of the union for prison guards, arguing obligations to act in good faith had not been met when he was ousted.

Jenner had sought a judicial review to win back the position at the Corrections Association of New Zealand (CANZ), arguing his December 2025 ousting had breached natural justice and union rules.

However, in a newly released judgment, Employment Court Judge Kathryn Beck dismissed the application for judicial review, clearing the way for the union executive’s unanimous decision to stand.

The ruling marked the latest chapter in a multi-layered legal conflict between Jenner and the CANZ leadership team.

Jenner, a senior Corrections officer and elected representative for Rimutaka Prison, was voted into the national vice presidency in June 2025. Within a month, the union's executive committee initiated a process to remove him for “just cause”, citing a range of concerns.
