A teenage boy has been arrested after a series of email bomb threats were allegedly sent to organisations and institutions across the country.
Police executed a search warrant at an Invercargill home on Monday afternoon following information gathered by Auckland detectives. The teenager was taken into custody without incident and charged with two counts of threatening to kill or do grievous bodily harm.
The arrest is part of Operation Irena, an ongoing investigation into threats made initially to Auckland institutions before spreading nationwide.
Southland area commander Inspector Mike Bowman said no explosive materials or items of concern were found during the search.
Initial police enquiries suggested the young person did not have the capability to carry out the threats.
