OTTAWA—The Ontario government has joined the legal challenge by a firearms lobby group of the federal government’s sweeping 2020 ban on “assault-style” weapons.
The Ford government is joining the Supreme Court challenge as the Carney government begins collecting weapons for its contentious buyback program, after the owners of roughly 67,000 now-banned guns, nearly half in Ontario, signed up to turn them in for compensation rather than risk criminal charges.
