MANILA, Philippines — A bill that seeks to create a national program for Filipinos with autism, effectively expanding the range of services and assistance given to those diagnosed with conditions inside the autism spectrum disorder (ASD), has been approved by a House of Representatives committee.

During the House committee on health’s hearing on Monday, a motion from Bukidnon Rep. Laarni Lavin Roque to consolidate the 46 similar bills was approved, with Deputy Speaker Albee Benitez’s House Bill (HB) No. 3379 or the proposed National Autism Program Act being used as the working draft.

Under HB No. 3379, different conditions within the ASD and possible responses and services were defined, including three different levels of autism that can be found in persons on the spectrum (POS).

Level 1 Autism deals with the level of ASD that requires support, known as high-functioning autism, while Level 2 refers to an ASD condition that “requires substantial support.”
