For Lorraine Klaasen, home may now be thousands of kilometres away, but South Africa has never left her heart.
Born in Soweto and now based in London, Ontario, Canada, the internationally acclaimed singer is preparing for a special homecoming performance at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival this September, a moment she describes as both deeply personal and long overdue.
As the daughter of South African jazz legend Thandi Klaasen, Lorraine carries a name synonymous with musical excellence.
But after nearly five decades of building her own career abroad, she is eager for audiences back home to see her for who she is beyond her mother’s celebrated legacy.
“I want people to see that I’m not only Thandi Klaasen’s daughter,” she says. “I am Lorraine Klaasen.”
