South African R&B and soul artist Elaine performing at last year's Standard Bank Joy of Jazz in Johannesburg. Her live set delivered on the Mbira Stage at the Sandton Convention Centre was well received.

The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival is proud to present Jazz for Young People (J4YP), a jam-packed celebratory day honouring the youth of South Africa. Taking place on Saturday 25 July 2026 from 09:00 to 18h00 at the National School of Arts in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, the event places young audiences and performers at the heart of a dynamic programme of jazz, learning and community involvement.

The event offers something for the whole family, including live performances, food, art exhibitions and children’s activities. J4YP also serves as a fundraiser in support of the National School of the Arts, an institution that has made a significant contribution to the development of musicians in South Africa. By giving young people the opportunity to help present this festival to their peers, the event creates meaningful participation while raising funds for the school.

This year carries special significance as South Africa commemorates 50 years since the Soweto Uprising, when young people took to the streets to fight for their rights. In that spirit, J4YP honours their legacy by creating opportunities for today’s youth and supporting their dreams.
