None of the residents in the Lumo housing company building can return home. The company has promised to find alternative accommodation.Yle News11:16An apartment building fire in Helsinki's Kalasatama neighbourhood on Saturday evening has left 63 flats unusable, says its owner, the rental housing company Lumo.The block of flats has a total of 63 apartments and one commercial space.Lumo business director Janne Ojalehto said that although the fire did not burn through all of the apartments, they are otherwise uninhabitable.The structure suffered extensive smoke and water damage. The fire also partially destroyed the stairwells and building services."For the safety of the residents, no-one can live there," he told Yle.Ojalehto says that Lumo has been in contact with all residents, either by phone or online. He said the company will hold a meeting for residents on Wednesday.Residents were allowed to visit their homes on Sunday to recover essential items."We are trying to find replacement housing for everyone. This was a very unfortunate event, we are trying to help everyone," Ojalehto said.According to police, the fire apparently started from a gas grill on the fourth-floor balcony, but the probe is still ongoing.It is being investigated as a case of gross negligence causing public danger, but possible charges may change as the investigation progresses. No injuries were reported.
