The Puducherry government has ordered the transfer of the investigation into the illegal stay of six foreign nationals from African countries, including an infant, in Puducherry to the Crime Branch-CID.Police sources said the Gorimedu police had handed over the case files to the CB-CID and the agency had begun its investigation.A team from the Gorimedu police detained the foreign nationals during a search drive conducted at Sanjeev Nagar in Alankuppam on March 10. The operation was carried out following specific intelligence inputs about the illegal stay of certain individuals in the area.With assistance from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), the police identified and apprehended six foreign nationals identified as Mastula Barbie Kansiime and Kakai Shadia from Uganda; and Delvin Justin Tarimo, Godwin Antony Chukwu, Fabian Sabina Paul, and Karungu Mariam Issa from Tanzania.Verification of documents revealed that the visas of the foreign nationals had expired and that they were illegally staying in India without valid documents, the police said.They were taken into custody for violation of visa rules and the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.The police said legal proceedings were initiated against the accused and the CB-CID commenced its probe into the incident.
