The Post Office has signed £500 million in contracts that are intended to transition the provider away from Fujitsu and the ill-fated Horizon IT system whose flaws resulted in the wrongful conviction of 900 postmasters over a 16-year period.
Accenture has been awarded a £322.8m contract to take over the management of the existing Horizon system from Fujitsu, while US retail tech provider One View Commerce was given a £169.2m contract to develop new software to replace the Fujitsu bespoke system.
No timeframe was given for the development of the new system.
