The round also saw Good Startup, Sparrow Capital, Sun Icon Ventures, Dholakia Ventures and WindT (IIT Delhi) Angels participate.Founded by IIT Delhi alums Akshay Mittal and Alok Malaviya, the company has spent the last two years operating in stealth mode while building its research and engineering capabilities. During that period, StrainX grew its team to more than 100 scientists, engineers and operators. The startup said it has developed an integrated biotechnology platform covering strain engineering, fermentation, process scale-up and product development.StrainX has also demonstrated fermentation on a 10,000-litre scale, a major milestone in precision fermentation, according to the startup. Precision fermentation is a biotechnological process that uses genetically modified microorganisms, like yeast or bacteria, as "cell factories" to produce specific proteins, enzymes, and other compounds. The startup said that the global market for the sector could grow into a multi-trillion-dollar opportunity over the next decade.StrainX is now preparing to scale operations further, including plans to move towards 100,000-litre production capacity in the near future. It also aims to strengthen partnerships with global food and ingredient companies as commercial production expands.“Biology is becoming a new manufacturing layer for the world,” said Akshay Mittal, founder & CEO of StrainX. “Over the coming decade, some of the most important products across food, materials, and consumer industries will increasingly be built using biological systems. India has the scientific talent and engineering capability to become a global leader in this transition.”StrainX said the fresh funding will support research and development, expanding scientific and engineering teams, and faster commercialisation through large-scale fermentation projects and global partnerships. ...moreElevate your knowledge and leadership skills at a cost cheaper than your daily tea.Subscribe Now
