The Kaikōura mayor is mourning the loss of a “mate” as the local community comes to terms with the death of a well-known fisherman after a boat capsized on Monday morning.
Anthony Lund was one of two people on board the vessel when it capsized.
According to police, emergency services were notified just after 7am. One person made it to shore safely, while Lund was found on the beach just after 8am.
He was unable to be revived.
Police thanked partner agencies that were involved in the response, including Police Search and Rescue, RCCNZ, Coastguard Kaikōura volunteers and Surf Lifesaving Kaikōura.
