Once upon a time, if the phone rang, you answered it.
These days, many people see an unfamiliar number and immediately assume it’s a scammer, telemarketer, robocall or someone trying to sell them something they don’t want.
With scam calls becoming more common, plenty of Kiwis let unknown numbers go to voicemail and wait to see if the caller leaves a message. Others worry they could miss an important call from a doctor, school, courier or potential employer.
Then there are the brave souls who still pick up every time, just in case.
Technology may have made communication easier, but it’s also made many of us suspicious whenever the phone rings unexpectedly.
