Less than a day after US President Donald Trump said an agreement with Tehran was “largely negotiated”, signs of friction have emerged over key elements of the proposed deal.

According to Al Jazeera, a source familiar with the talks said Iran believes Washington is backing away from earlier understandings on the mechanism for unfreezing Iranian assets and the scope of a ceasefire framework for Lebanon.

The source said the draft agreement includes provisions related to a ceasefire in Lebanon, but Israel is reportedly pressing the United States to include language allowing Israeli forces to carry out military operations in response to what it considers threats.

According to the source, Tehran has informed mediators that it will not sign the agreement under those terms, raising new questions about whether a final deal can be reached.
